Border of Consciousness and Unconsciousness
three-dimensional work 2013 Map of England, Salt 300×450×200mm
I cut the line between land and the sea on the map. It was very strange feeling because the land shaped by the sea waves, wind from the sea, and my action was to separate the relationship between land and the sea. Psychologist, Carl Gustav Jung described that human body is a part of Nature, but consciousness of human being extricate from Nature. City is created by the consciousness of human being, thus city can be seen as not Nature. By cutting out land, I erased the world of consciousness and left the world of unconsciousness-Nature. The line is like a cliff line of Seven Sisters as if you go over the line, you will die. The salt indicates an invisible line as salt is necessary for human body, but excess the certain amount drives human to die.
